G-Star RAW is known for its denim design. We push boundaries and change industry ways in order to create innovative jeans with respect to nature, peoples' needs and the planet. We design all of our collections with this philosophy in mind. G-Star Raw is a denim brand that pioneers change and champions sustainability. They want to leave a lasting impact, make a positive difference and inspire others along the way. Join them as they create the next 30 years of denim history. G-Star RAW's environment rating is 'it's a start'. It uses some eco-friendly materials including organic cotton. It has eliminated hazardous chemicals for most of the final and second stages of production. There is no evidence it minimises textile waste when manufacturing its products. It has a policy approved by CanopyStyle to prevent deforestation of ancient and endangered forests in its supply chain.
G-Star Raw, which owes its renown to a style of jeans designed exactly to mimic the comfort and look of a worn-in pair, demands just that kind of offbeat care. The fit just gets better with time, as it follows the molds and contours of your body, the way you sit, bend and wear it. And that's achieved without the intervention of water, detergent and heat from your dryer. Founded in 1989 by a man named Jos Van Tilburg, G-Star Raw debuted two product lines in 1996 that would catapult it to its present status.
There was Raw Denim, which meant untreated and unadulterated denim, save for a heat process that made sure there was no shrinkage, such that you could buy your exact size; it was an instant hit with denim purists. Then came what would be known as Elwood, architecturally conceptualized 3D jeans created by its chief designer, a Frenchman named Pierre Morisset, who got inspired by the pair worn by a biker at a rest stop, drenched to the bone, his jeans molded in the riding position even as he alighted from his motorcycle.
Some points of our policies:
Lenzing ECOVERO™: is a branded viscose fiber derived from sustainable wood sources and certified with the EU Ecolabel, meeting high environmental standards throughout its life cycle. Viscose/Conventional Rayon: Rayon is a regenerated cellulosic fiber made from wood pulp. Rayon is typically made from eucalyptus, spruce and pine wood, but it can also be made from cotton or bamboo. As conventional Rayon or Viscose has a very negative impact on the environment and the production of this fiber contributes to the deforestation of ancient and threatened forests, the sustainable alternatives that G-Star RAW is using are Refibra™, Tencel™ Lyocell from Lenzing, Modal from Lenzing and Lenzing Ecovero™.
Conventional Lyocell: is a form of Rayon, and is composed primarily of wood-derived cellulose. There are several sustainable options for Lyocell that G-Star RAW is using more and more, such as Refibra™, Tencel lyocell from Lenzing, Modal from Lenzing. The best opportunities you find here!
