THE RAW TRUTH ABOUT CONVENTIONAL MOUTH RINSE

First of all, what the heck is a microbiome? The oral microbiome is the organisms in your mouth and they exist to support the remineralization of your teeth. When you use mouthwash, it kills all bacteria in your mouth, which seems like a good thing, but it kills ALL bacteria, good and bad! Your mouth needs good bacteria to support the oral microbiome, reducing the risk of gingivitis, cavities, and bad breath! Seriously, what good is a mouthwash that contains alcohol?

Saliva also promotes remineralization, cleans teeth, and washes important minerals, such as calcium and phosphate, off the teeth. Mouthwash containing alcohol dries up saliva and removes these important minerals from the mouth. Traditional mouthwash contains around 26% alcohol (more than beer). You know that horrible dry mouth feeling from drinking alcohol, that's what happens when you use mouthwashes that contain alcohol.

Traditional mouthwashes use a variety of downright disturbing ingredients, such as formaldehyde (used to embalm corpses). Chlorine dioxide (the gas commonly used to disinfect water supplies), as well as sodium lauryl sulfate, polysorbate, cetylpyridinium chloride, and benzalkonium chloride, which are troublesome ingredients used in conventional mouthwashes. All of these are toxic to organisms in aquatic environments where they all end up when you spit them down the sink.

Not to mention that most traditional mouthwashes come in plastic bottles and yes, some of them may be recyclable, but what about the environmental factors of making the plastic in the first place?

The comparison showing 7 plastic bottles equals 1 of our glass jars.

In conclusion, mouthwashes containing alcohol are extremely bad for your oral health and the environment, what can you do?

WHY DO WE NEED TO CONSERVE WATER?

Why do we need to conserve water? For the environment, of course. With every action we take, we should think about how it will affect the environment and the future of our planet.

The average person uses a staggering 140 liters of water a day! Conserving water saves energy, as energy is needed to pump, filter, and heat the water in your home; so, in turn, conserving water reduces your carbon footprint, which makes a huge difference to the environment. Humans waste so much water that it could help save our ecosystems, like wetlands (next time you turn on the tap, think about how it's affecting otters!). Just waiting for the water to cool down wastes 10 liters of water a day. So how can we do better? Well, if you have to wait for the tap to cool down, collect the initial water and use it to water the plants or put it in the fridge for later (there is never an excuse to waste a single drop).

One way to conserve water is by drying traditional products like mouthwash, toothpaste, and cleaning products, which are much more environmentally friendly for a number of reasons. Drying the products reduces their volume, for example a glass bottle of our mouthwash tablets equals 7 plastic bottled mouthwashes (containing water), resulting in a lower volume / weight of the product to be transported, reducing fuel and carbon emissions from shipping. . It also means that only the exact amount of water needed is used by not adding it to the active ingredients until use.

By drying products, it is estimated that companies could use 20% less plastic by shipping only active ingredients (no water). We have made a better one by removing the plastic completely. All of our products are packaged in recyclable, compostable or reusable materials. All of our dry toothpaste tablets and mouthwash tablets come in glass jars that can be reused (could be used to collect tap water) but can also be reused with our refill packs that are shipped in kraft card boxes (what which makes them even lighter).

Running a tap can waste 6 liters of water per minute, so be sure to turn off the tap when cleaning your teeth. Our toothpaste tablets don't need water, just chew and brush as usual!
