HIGH QUALITY POULTRY FOOD - WITH FREE NEXT DAY DELIVERY

In short, no. Thistle seeds are often confused with niger (sometimes called 'nyger') because they are both small seeds. However, this is where the similarity ends.

Why do many 25.5 kg orders come in separate bags?

In order to facilitate! Have you ever tried lifting around a 25.5 kg bag? It's heavy! Therefore, we do our best to prevent you from buying in bulk, while ensuring that you can still move and use the bags. Storing one bag while using the other also optimizes freshness.

Why don't birds eat the food?

There are several reasons why birds may not enter your garden and it can be difficult to diagnose quickly, but here are a few reasons.

Feeders are not placed in the right place. They can be in hard-to-reach areas, close to natural cover or close to where larger animals, such as cats, tend to hide.

Lack of water - birds love water and need it for drinking and bathing. Bird baths are the right option.

The lack of diversity in feeding can cause certain birds that visit your garden to fly elsewhere. So experiment with different feed types and what works best.

Can I keep the feed in the bag?

We always suggest storing the feed in an airtight container to help it last as long as possible. Read our bird feed storage guide for more information.

Are the bags recyclable?

Happy Beaks uses a mix of recyclable plastic bags when packaging products. Smaller 5kg bags of bird feed are packaged in mixed plastic bags that can be recycled at selected curbside locations and most recycling centers. Larger bags are shipped in low-density polyethylene bags, which can also be recycled at some sidewalk locations and most recycling centers.

Our long-term goal is to remove all plastic from our packaging, and we are currently researching the best way to do this. It is important to us to ensure that all simple bird foods, seed mixes and other bird foods are stored correctly. As such, our current blend of plastic offers the best solution for waterproofing and longevity. As our packaging is very resistant, we encourage our customers to reuse the bags for transporting garden waste, compost or even garbage bags!

What measures are taken to ensure that the products are of ethical origin?

We supply ingredients from all over the world (which is necessary because certain crops can only be grown in certain places), however our aim is to source ingredients as locally as possible. In doing so, we aim to minimize the carbon footprint of these ingredients as well as support the local economy.

Are neonicotinoids used in the product chain?

We don't want products from farms that used neonicotinoids, but producers of essential ingredients like sunflower hearts could have sourced thousands of tons of black sunflower seeds from many farms. Unfortunately, therefore, it is almost impossible for us to determine which of these farms used and which did not use these pesticides. Only a total ban on them could solve the problem - and we support any activity that promotes that ban.

Do your foods contain palm oil?

In short, no. While palm oil can be responsibly grown, we have decided that it is more sustainable to completely remove it from our products. That's why there is no palm oil in any Happy Beaks product.
