Durable Solutions
We continually develop our products and carefully choose high-quality raw materials.
For us at Tikkurila, one of the key components in our struggle to become sustainable is the supply of highly durable paint films.
The quality of the products translates into greater durability, ensuring longer maintenance painting intervals. This is a simple, basic and important first step to reduce the environmental impact of paints and coatings. With the rapid evolution of water-based technology, we are now in a position where Tikkurila water-based systems are generally more durable than hydrocarbon ones.
Examples
Valtti Plus Kesto Paint - Our water-based product designed for wood surfaces has a maintenance interval that is twice as long as typical stains.
Joker - A high-performance matte emulsion paint The Finnish Federation of Allergy, Skin and Asthma has granted solvent-free paint the right to use its label. The ink has also received the Swan label, the EU Ecolabel and the M1 rating, indicating that it has low emissions.
Protecting the environment
For decades, we've worked diligently to protect the environment. It is an honor for us to be the forerunners of healthy painting, surface care and the use of color.
We don't just meet minimum environmental and safety standards; we go even further to study and reduce the environmental and health impacts of our products.
Independent Testing & Certification
Tikkurila holds the following independent certifications covering all aspects of our manufacturing processes. Several hundred Tikkurila Group products have been eco-labelled.
The Nordic ecolabel, the Swan, is a testimony to the proven safety and environmental effects of the product. What is more, a Swan-labelled product is durable. Its technical quality - such as adhesion, wear-resistance and hiding power - has been tested and verified.
The M1 certification granted to products by the Finnish Building Information Foundation guarantees low emissions. The products that have been granted the allergy label by the Finnish Allergy and Asthma Federation meet stringent product-specific criteria and do not contain fragrances, irritants and other allergy-causing agents.
COLABELLED PAINTS: Our paints are awarded many ecolabels: the Nordic Swan Ecolabel, EU Ecolabel, M1 classification measuring low emissions and allergy label. The classifications help us to choose products that are better for the environment, health and safety.
PROVEN HIGH-QUALITY RAW MATERIALS: We are continuously cooperating with our raw material suppliers to find alternatives that work technically and safer for health and the environment. Our low-emission, water-borne paints are manufactured from high-quality raw materials, and the product properties are ensured with a thorough set of field and laboratory tests.
BREATHABLE SURFACES: Our interior wall paints are breathing, which means that they have a high aqueous vapour permeability. Tikkurila exterior paints have been optimized to protect the surface from weather stress and direct rainfall, but also to allow aqueous vapour to pass through it.
REDUCED WASTE: All our colour tinting is done to order. This means we hold no leftover colours in our Warehouse or on the shelves that must be thrown away over time. This improves our efficiency and decreases our amount of waste.
PRODUCT EXPERTISE: We have a growing team of technical experts in the UK to help you make sustainable, long-lasting choices.
