1991 Wine and Port Gifts | 30 Year Old Wine
1991 wine and Port Gift Suggestions
1991 was a great year for Vintage Port and Armagnac's. 1991 was Declared as a Classic Vintage by some producers, the first since 1985.
1991 Vintage Port would make a perfect gift for a 30th Anniversary.
The 1991 port vintage was a very small but good Vintage; the grapes tended to be small with little juice resulting in deep, dense powerful wines for the medium to long term. It was declared by the Symington-owned houses (Dow, Graham, Warre, Smith Woodhouse, Gould Campbell, Quarles Harris) while Taylor and Fonseca declared Single Quinta wines. Both the declared 1991 Vintage Ports and the 1991 Single Quinta wines would make a great 30 year old wine gift for a 30th birthday or anniversary celebration.

Pauillac 1er Grand Cru Classe
This 2008 Mouton Rothschild has a very high proportion of Cabernet Sauvignon in the blend, once again this red wine displays a very rich range of aromas and flavours throughout the tasting.
The first nose is intense and open: red fruit, blackberry and blackcurrant combine harmoniously with floral notes such as violet. On airing, roasted, toasted notes mingle graciously with delicate touches of cedar wood.
The palate opens with a lively, powerful and full-bodied attack, releasing silky, velvet tannins. Forward fruit on black berry flavours is set off by toasted notes and a delicious touch of vanilla, while the powerful and harmonious finish displays very attractive length.
Nature took its time in 2008, from vine-tending to vinification, but ultimately produced all the necessary ingredients to make a very fine wine indeed.
Chateau Mouton Rothschild
Much of Mouton’s success is due to the late Baron Philippe de Rothschild, who assumed control in 1922. He was a dynamic figure who revolutionised much of the running of the estate. The first to introduce château-bottling, as early as 1924, he instigated the practice after the Second World War of employing a different artist each year to design the label. His greatest achievement was to have Mouton upgraded to 1st Growth Status in 1973, the only change ever to be made to the 1855 Classification. The vineyard, comprising 75 hectares of mainly gravel-based soils, is planted with 80% Cabernet Sauvignon, 10% Cabernet Franc, 8% Merlot and 2% Petit Verdot. Grapes are hand-picked, and the juice is fermented in barrel - not in vat. After fermentation the wine is aged in new oak for 22 months before bottling. In style the wines have immense appeal, with exotic, powerful aromas of cassis, minerals, tobacco leaf and graphite, backed by an opulence on the palate and impressive length on the finish. Chateau Mouton Rothschild has often produced the “wine of the vintage”.
