How Long Does It Take For Collagen Supplements To Work?
At Absolute Collagen, we hear from many happy Absoluters excited to share their journeys, experiences, and results. Some Absoluters have reported visible improvements to their skin in as little as 3-4 days, while a perception trial carried out by our in-house Trichologist, Eva Proudman, revealed improvements to the appearance of hair in as little as 14 days.
One of the reasons for this variation is that when you take Absolute Collagen, your body first sends the boosted collagen to the places that need it the most, and this might not be where you expect. For instance, if you take Absolute Collagen for your skin, but your hair needs the collagen more, you might not see the skin benefits you’re looking for as quickly as you hoped, but may notice an unexpected improvement in hair quality.
How Long Does Collagen Take to Work on Skin?
In 2015, a study published by the Journal of Cosmetic Dermatology found that oral collagen peptide supplementation resulted in the decrease of visible signs of skin ageing. The study showed there was a decrease in the number of wrinkles in the skin, alongside a substantial increase in skin moisture. In terms of time taken to see these results, the study found minor results by week 4, and major results at 12 weeks, with wrinkles decreasing up to 31.2% in the clinical trial.
So, when it comes to skin, results time does vary from person to person. You may be one of the lucky ones who see results within a week. However, this particular concludes that collagen will work from 4 weeks and show maximum results within 12 weeks. This aligns with what we hear from customers, with the best results appearing from the 6-12 week mark.
How Long Does Collagen Take to Work on Hair?
We carried out a perception trial, led by top consultant Trichologist Eva Proudman, developed specifically to look at how taking Absolute Collagen impacted the hair and scalp.
Hair in both men and women can be impacted by dietary deficiencies, especially in terms of a lack in essential amino acids, vitamins and minerals. This can lead to excessive hair shedding and hair thinning. Diet and lifestyle factors, particularly stress, are often suggested to be an underlying cause, and while we can’t make our busy lives stress-free, we can tackle dietary deficiencies, including taking additional supplements to boost our wellbeing.
Absolute Collagen contains seven of the eight essential amino acids that the body requires. These amino acids can only be obtained from diet because the body cannot synthesise them. As the building blocks of keratin (the protein that makes up the hair) amino acids are responsible for hair strength and elasticity. They also support the hair’s natural growth cycle, which affects the rate at which hair sheds.
In our trial, a trichological examination took place every 2 weeks, over a 12 week period. The candidates were asked to take Absolute Collagen daily and keep a daily questionnaire and observation sheet. The candidates took no other supplements apart from Absolute Collagen.
In as little as 2 weeks the candidates were reporting a positive change in their hair texture, with all perceiving their hair to be smoother and sleeker. The trichological examination on week 2 did not reveal any change in texture (although Eva believes an increase in sebum could explain the perception). However, an examination on week 4 did show that the texture was smoother and sleeker in every single one of the candidates. At week 8 all candidates reported a reduction in the need to use hair conditioner, as their own hair was much softer, sleeker and easier to style.
So, when it comes to the hair, it again varies from person to person. However, we can confidently say that changes can be seen in hair texture in as little as 4 weeks, and definitely by 8 weeks.
Real Reviews from Real Customers
We love hearing from our customers, especially hearing all their honest reviews and testimonials. We get a range of responses, with improvements reported across hair, skin, nails and more, and Absoluters report these changes appearing over various different time periods - some see changes within days, others suddenly notice bigger improvements after weeks or months.
