How to use Acnecid?
Step 1: clean
Prepare your skin for the treatment application: You want to have a clean, pleasant skin surface for the treatment to start working!
Cleanse your skin with a mild daily cleanser suitable for your skin type, so it stays clean and free of daily dirt, oil and makeup, or overnight oils, dead skin cells and night creams.
Gently dry the skin with a towel.
Step 2: Choose your Acnecid 5% Benzoyl Peroxide treatment
Acnecid facial gel (no rinse treatment)
Apply the gel in a thin layer only to the affected areas of the face.
Avoid sensitive areas such as eyes, mouth/lips, lining of the nose and neck.
Avoid temptation! Using more than a thin layer on the necessary areas won't get rid of blemishes any faster, but your skin may be irritated!
When you start using Acnecid Facial Gel:
Start using it every other day until you build tolerance for it. Then gradually increase to a maximum of twice-daily applications as follows:
Apply once a day, at night before bedtime.
After 2-3 days, if your skin is tolerating the treatment once a day, you can use it twice a day in the morning and in the evening.
Reduce to once a day or take a break if your skin becomes very irritated.
Acnecid Face Wash (washing treatment)
Wet the face again with cold water in the areas to be treated.
Apply a small amount of the facial cleanser to your fingertips and massage into the affected areas. Leave on skin for 1-2 minutes of contact time followed by a thorough rinse with clean water to remove all traces of Wash Gel. Gently dry the skin with a towel.
Avoid temptation! Using more than a small amount will not clear blemishes any faster, but your skin may be irritated!
When you start using Acnecid Facial Wash Gel:
Start using it every other day until you build tolerance for it. Then gradually increase to a maximum of twice-daily applications as follows:
Apply once a day, at night before bedtime.
After 2-3 days, if your skin is tolerating the treatment once a day, you can use it twice a day in the morning and in the evening.
Reduce to once a day or take a break if your skin becomes very irritated.
What is the difference between leave-on gel and wash-off treatment?
Both preparations contain 5% benzoyl peroxide, which effectively kills up to 95% of the bacteria that cause blemishes.
The difference between the Gel and the Wash is only in the formulations, the Gel being formulated to be a leave-on treatment and the Wash to be washed. Some people may find that the treatment wash format is better to use if their skin is already prone to sensitivity.
Step 3: moisturize
Using a moisturizer after applying and using the treatment can help minimize the possible irritation or dryness that benzoyl peroxide treatments can cause. Look for non-comedogenic moisturizers suitable for your skin.
Medicinal treatments with Acnecid can make the skin sensitive to sunlight, so a daytime moisturizer with UVA / UVB protection can be helpful in addition to preventing excessive sun exposure.
