About Black Halo
Black Halo Founder and Creative Director, Laurel Berman, draws inspiration from the silhouette of a woman's body. Her architectural designs summon a natural inner beauty and strength that are both liberating and empowering to women when worn. Built on her own unassuming allure and relaxed confidence, she creates collections for modern women that are never lacking femininity. Born in Spokane, Washington, her passion for design led her to study at the San Francisco Academy of Fashion. She then worked in many capacities for various brands within the industry. Her multi-faceted experience provided the foundation needed to construct and execute her vision of a brand made for all women. Since launching the brand in 2002, It has been important to both Berman and her partner, Sean Pattison, that this remain an authentic American-made brand located in Los Angeles's hub of apparel manufacturing. Berman transformed the way women dress today with a single piece, the wildly popular 'Jackie O' dress; known for it's versatility and ability to enhance a woman's figure. To quote the Wall Street Journal '…The Label Behind the Dress That Never Quits.' Since its launch in 2002, Black Halo has expanded from its Los Angeles heritage, becoming an internationally renowned brand that can be found in over 1,500 stores worldwide. In 2012, the brand premiered an evening wear collection, Black Halo EVE by Laurel Berman, broadening their appeal to existing clientele while reaching a new audience. Black Halo continues to design garments that blend flawless construction and impeccable tailoring, channeling an aesthetic that references and reinvents the meaning of modern-classic style. The result is understated glamour without pretense, which has made the collection a long-standing favorite among women and notable celebrities.
In April 2018, a month before her royal wedding to Prince Harry, Meghan Markle stepped out in a classic, belted sheath dress from Black Halo.
The dress, known as the "Jackie O" dress, is a favorite among A-list celebrities. Blake Lively and Kim Kardashian also own it and Scarlett Johansson sported it in characters as Natasha Romanoff (aka Black Widow) in 2010's Iron Man 2.
Meghan Markle is known for her classic style, so it's no surprise that one of her most iconic royal looks is literally one of the most famously classic dresses on the market: The Black Halo "Jackie O" dress.
Meghan wore this well-known, belted sheath dress to a reception for women's empowerment at the Royal Aeronautical Society in central London, on the fourth day of the Commonwealth Heads of Government Meeting in April 2018, a month before her royal wedding to Prince Harry.
The dress comes in bright blue, deep red, white, and black. Meghan wore the black version of the fitted dress, which is available in sizes 0 to 18.
It dawned on us that, oh, just about every other celebrity in Hollywood has worn the iconic belted dress by Black Halo too! Named for former First Lady and American style icon Jacqueline Kennedy Onassis, the Black Halo 'Jackie-O Belted' dress (which retails for $375) has been a go-to for celebrities for more than a decade, and for good reason.
