Cocktail recipe: Grant's Whisky and Cola
Whisky and cola is one of the most popular cocktails rustled up in kitchens throughout the country for a reason. It's easy to make, even easier to drink. There's a lot to like here.
The beauty of this recipe is that, chances are, you have cola in the cupboard already. Be it branded or not, Grant's Triple Wood 12 whisky will complement it perfectly. Triple Wood 12 is matured in three types of wood: Virgin Oak provides sweet spice robustness, American Oak brings subtle vanilla smoothness and Bourbon refill tops off proceedings with brown sugar sweetness. Thanks to these three flavours, there are few whiskies that blend as well with cola as Grant's Triple Wood 12. With the classic cocktail recipe below, you can enjoy this whisky at its best.
Ingredients
50ml Grant's Triple Wood 12 whisky
100ml cola
¼ fresh lime, cut into two wedges
Method
Add the whisky to an ice-filled glass
Add the cola, then squeeze one lime wedge into the glass
Stir and serve with the second lime wedge
Low-alcohol cocktail recipe: Atopia Spiced Citrus and Tonic
For those that choose not to drink, we have the perfect low-alcohol option. Low alcohol cocktails are a perfect middle ground between a traditional cocktail, and an entirely alcohol-free mocktail. Atopia is an ultra low-alcohol spirit that, when combined with tonic, creates a cocktail containing 75 times less alcohol than a traditional gin and tonic, meaning you can cater for most guests at family gatherings.
Spiced Citrus and Tonic has all of the benefits of a gin and tonic - the freshness and floral aromas - without the high ABV. Atopia Spiced Citrus contains orange, juniper, coriander, angelica root and lemon at its foundation, with spice, orange blossom and wormwood adding a subtle aromatic depth to its taste. Support it with the right tonic, and this will become one of the most popular cocktails at your family gathering.
Ingredients
50ml Atopia Spiced Citrus
150ml tonic water
Orange slice
Method
Add both ingredients to a glass over cubed ice
Stir, top with fresh ice and garnish with an orange slice
Cocktail recipe: Discarded Sustainable Spritz
In recent times sustainable brands have experienced a sharp rise in popularity. It is now common for people to ask about where products are sourced, how wasteful manufacturing processes are and how we create a circular economy by re-purposing ingredients. Discarded is a brand made for drinkers who are serious about sustainability.
Created to make use of the waste that is usually discarded in the wine-making process, the Discarded Grape Skin Chardonnay Vodka in the recipe below makes for a perfect summer serve. Pair it with citrus cordial and a splash of flat leftover bubbles for a stunningly sustainable spritz.
Ingredients
50ml Discarded Grape Skin Chardonnay Vodka
50ml slightly flat sparkling wine
25ml citrus cordial
Lemonade, to top the above
Lemon slice
Method
Add all ingredients in a wine glass and top off with lemonade
Stir and garnish with a lemon slice
Cocktail recipe: Tully XO Tonic
For family members that are passionate about Irish whiskey, we have just the thing. Tullamore D.E.W. XO is a Caribbean rum cask finish Irish whiskey. Imagine the signature smoothness and complexity of Tullamore D.E.W. - then layer some sweet tropical notes of caramel, banana, dates and raisins on top.
By using barrels previously used to age Demerara Rum for Tullamore D.E.W. XO, we are left with a light, summertime dram that comes to life with the addition of tonic, as in the recipe below. As suitable as an aperitif as it is for a post-work drink, or for raising a glass to mark a moment enjoying the company of family.
Ingredients
2 parts Tullamore D.E.W. XO
3 parts tonic water
Pineapple leaves
Method
Add the Tullamore D.E.W. XO to a glass, and fill with ice cubes, before topping with tonic water
Stir and serve with two pineapple leaves poking out of the top of the glass
Four different recipes catering to four different preferences. With these cocktail recipes under your belt, you'll be able to satisfy everyone without breaking a sweat. That way, you can focus on what matters - making it a moment to remember.
