BIKE BOX HIRE

Our bike box hire service makes it easy to travel with your bike and broaden your cycling horizons. Bike box hire is available from £30 per week and we have a delivery service if you aren't able to pick the bike box up from our London store. We offer Bike Box Alan hard cases, as used by Chris Froome and Laura Trott, to name but a few. The boxes have wheels to make negotiating busy airports easy, and are constructed from super-tough ABS hard plastic. The boxes feature an anti-crush pole and a large number of Velcro straps to hold everything in place. Depending on the size and style of bike, there may be additional space for helmet, pump and pedals. On the day of collection, you'll need some personal ID such your passport or driving licence. We take a £150 deposit which is refunded when you return the box within your hire agreement dates. If you have a busy schedule and timing is paramount, we can pack your bike for £25 and can re-assemble your bike upon your return for a small additional fee of £15. In both cases, the bike must be pre-booked and brought to our store on Gray's Inn Road.

Will my bike fit in the box?

Box dimensions: 92cm x 113cm x 32cm (HxLxW). Weight of box: 11.2Kg. The bike box is designed to fit road bikes of sizes from 42-63cm. For disc-equipped bikes, we recommend removing the rotors if possible when packing your bike, as they are vulnerable and can be subjected to damage whilst in transit. Most time trial bikes of the same size will fit too, including the majority with integrated seat posts. Ensure that the box weight and dimensions are accepted by your airline, network provider or courier.

Additional packing recommendations

Wider tyres on cyclo-cross bikes, for example, may need to be deflated or removed completely. If your wheels take thru-axles, you will require a set of traditional skewers, with 20mm washers to secure the wheels in place. We can supply these with your hire. Please be careful if your bike has wired electronic gears, such as Shimano Di2 or Campagnolo EPS, that you don't crimp or stretch any of the electronic cables when packing your bike, particularly when removing the seat post and cockpit (if required). We highly recommend that you take a spare rear derailleur hanger and use our Frame Spacer to protect your frame. It can be re-used each time you travel. This, and other add-ons, can be purchased at the time of booking. Zip ties can be used on the clasps to secure the box.

Damage and Insurance

It is your responsibility to insurance the box and its contents. Damage to the box and any missing components or parts may result in the loss of your deposit. If the box or its contents are damaged in transit, it must be reported to the appropriate authorities within the airport baggage collection hall or the train station (as applicable), so that a claim can be made. If you leave the baggage hall or station without making a claim, this could result in losing your hire deposit. Please use the carry holes to attach flight labels to avoid a £20 surcharge for removing labels (courier or flight labels). The box must be returned in the polythene bag provided on delivery. The 'anti crush' pole, foam padding and accessories must be returned. You will be charged £20 for any items missing upon return. Please do not deface or mark the box with any permanent markers or stickers. Use a TSA (Transportation Security Authority) approved lock. These are recognised internationally by most security services and permit authorities to inspect your luggage and contents without cutting open or damaging the box to gain access. Any failed collections will be chargeable at £20.
