Green Man Gaming Joins United Nations Fight Against Climate Change
Green Man Gaming, one of the world's largest online retailers of digital download games, has pledged to work with its community on a major reforestation initiative that was announced last night in New York City at the United Nations Climate Summit Conference. alliance - a collective of some of the biggest names in the video game world, all have made individual pledges. Its mission is to help alert and inspire the video game community about our carbon gaming printing, drive carbon neutral and energy efficiency projects, and manage restoration programs to help tackle the climate change crisis. Green Man Gaming is committed to leading a tree planting restoration program starting in the first quarter of 2020. Green Man Gaming will partner with a recognized and certified tree planting organization, to be announced shortly. The program will launch in the UK to begin with and then roll out to other international markets starting in 2021. Funds will be raised through the sale of select games on Green Man Gaming's e-commerce platform. This will then be invested in a planting program, which will result in approximately 200 additional acres of new trees in the first year. Green Man Gaming Partners with St Mary's University to Promote Diversity in Videogames.Green Man Gaming, the global video game technology and e-commerce business, is teaming up with St Mary's University at Twickenham to provide internship and mentoring opportunities for BAME students to promote diversity in the UK gaming sector. Recent data from HESA shows that BAME graduates are eight per cent more likely to be unemployed than their white counterparts, as well as being less likely to have sector-specific work experience. BAME graduates tend to make 70-90 percent more applications than white graduates, but once in office they tend to be less well paid.
UKIE estimates that approximately 10 percent of people working in games are BAME, which, while superior to the creative industries, is inferior to the software and IT industry. Significantly, 70 percent of people working in the gaming industry are male, a significant representation compared to the working population.Through St Mary's University's BeSMART program, Green Man Gaming will begin offering paid in-company marketing internships, where they will span all marketing divisions, including performance marketing, branding, affiliates, influencers, CRM and social media. They will also receive guidance from the Green Man Gaming senior team in all areas of the business.
