Eat well
Making sure you're eating a balanced diet and eating well is the best way to stay fit and healthy, so limit takeout and junk food. In fact, it's very easy to cook and there are plenty of free recipes online to help you unravel the chef in you.
Our main tips are:
Plan meals during the week as you spend less money being tempted by the food offered at the supermarket.
Buy in bulk and cook in bulk. You're going to get spag bol more than once, right? So why not prepare a huge batch at once? It will cost less than making smaller portions every week. Also, it tastes better the second time around. Freeze the portions, then write what it is and when it froze in the bag; Seriously, this will save you a world of pain when you're trying to figure out what the food is and if it was frozen this year or 2013.
Don't throw away leftovers, save them and find ways to reuse. Sam's surprise at breakfast on Tuesday the 19th could be a legend.
Choose your supermarket carefully as you will easily pay 10p+ on an item from a corner store or express supermarket than hitting a Lidl or Aldi. If it's not easy to get to a cheaper supermarket, organize a large food store with your housemates and order delivery from Tesco or Asda. It's very easy because you can organize a shopping list and use it over and over again; just don't forget to place a standing order with whoever is paying, which means it's all taken care of.
Fresh equipment
Just because you're on a limited budget doesn't mean you have to give up on updating your style. Bargains can be found, you just need to know where to look! Start by buying some good quality clothes that last, what you need, like jeans and sneakers, and combine them with fast fashion so you're fresh and organized for the year. Nights with Boys and Girls
Going out is a big part of student life, it's the way you meet new people, but when you're on a tight budget, you have to pick your nights off, be a little strategic about where to go and when. Weekends are more expensive because they also cater to those who have jobs, so see what happens during the week, as pubs, bars and clubs tend to cater to students.
One way to save pounds is to have a pre-party at home. Invite your friends for a walk and grab the beers wherever you are, maybe play a game or two, watch football and hang out when the clubs are getting busier. Get to the club just before ticket prices go up and save your entrance fee. Or just throw a house party, everyone loves a good house party!
