Lavazza

Lavazza has always put people at the center of its world: from coffee producers to employees and consumers. That is why we are committed every day to the promotion and implementation of our principles, involving all the Group's stakeholders.

For this, it is necessary to work as a team, as sustainability is a shared responsibility.

Lavazza Group Sustainability Manifesto

The Lavazza Group's Sustainability Manifesto 'A goal in every World Cup' is a programmatic statement that outlines the Group's Sustainability strategy, inspired by the deep sense of responsibility that the Company has had for over 120 years towards the communities where it operates , in particular coffee growers, employees and consumers.

This is a strategy increasingly integrated into the business and based on the principles of the 2030 Agenda signed in 2017, within which Lavazza identified the four priority pillars of sustainability, with which it will commit in the coming years: Goal 5 - Gender equality, Goal 8 - Decent work and economic growth, Goal 12 - Responsible consumption and production, Goal 13 - Act for the climate.

The 4 Objectives identified were chosen in order to promote a balance between social (8 and 5) and environmental (12 and 13) objectives.

The Group supports them with the 'Objetivo Zero', created by Lavazza with the objective of spreading the message of the 17 Sustainable Development Goals to all the main stakeholders of the Company.

Lavazza and the Sustainable Development Goals

Lavazza is committed to achieving the 17 goals of the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals. Sustainable innovation, combating climate change and a commitment to responsible production and consumption bring a virtuous circle to life: not only do they benefit the environment and society, but they generate efficiency in production cycles, waste reduction, limitation uneconomic processes, also for the benefit of the company's margins.

For Lavazza, these principles are not negotiable: not only because the product derives from the transformation of raw materials of plant origin, potentially threatened by the phenomenon of climate change, but above all because the global responsibilities that the Goals imply go beyond mere economic interests , tracing paths that lead to a more ethical and sustainable world.

Lavazza has been collaborating with Save the Children for over 15 years. With a total donation of 3 million euros, Lavazza supported projects in India, Côte d'Ivoire, Myanmar and emergency interventions in Emilia Romagna and Nepal. During that time, the company worked with Save the Children on two important projects.

Combating malnutrition with the 1000-day approach

Lavazza and Save the Children worked on a project against child mortality in Calcutta through the prevention and treatment of malnutrition, focusing on the first 1000 days of life: this period is essential because it is the period when vital functions and faculties motor and cognitive skills develops.

Offering new life perspectives for slum teenagers

There are many teenagers in Calcutta who live in slums, unhealthy urban neighborhoods, because they lack basic sanitation and basic sanitation. Lavazza and Save the Children are committed to creating opportunities for the most marginalized teenagers in degraded areas, rescuing them from situations of abuse and exploitation to integrate them into the world of work in a sustainable manner. The project made it possible to reach more than 101 vulnerable adolescents and offer 240 hours of training and consequent support for entering the world of work.

In 2016, Lavazza and Save the Children further deepened their relationship through collaboration on the Rights of the Child and Business Principles, the guidelines to support companies in respecting and promoting the rights of the child.

Lavazza decided to go beyond the classic relationship between nonprofit and donor to develop a permanent activity together with Save the Children capable of creating a long-term social sustainability project, also through the development of good sustainability practices within from the company.

Commitment to the territory

Lavazza's Community Engagement is a program of activities in the area that aims to improve the social, cultural and environmental context of local communities. To this end, Lavazza establishes cooperative relations with the realities of the territories in which it operates.

With the move to the new 'Nuvola' headquarters, Lavazza decided to sell the elements of the old office furniture at symbolic prices, in order to relocate them and avoid waste and disposal that would have a negative impact on the environment.

The project involved more than 3,000 objects between furniture and computer tools, allowing 70% of the total material to be relocated.
