History

At the end of the 1960s, Lino Manfrotto was a photojournalist in Bassano del Grappa for Il Gazzettino and Il Giornale di Vicenza. He also dedicates himself to industrial and advertising photography. The equipment in the photographer's studio was heavy, heavy and did not facilitate the work of professionals. The market offered a wide range of studio flashes and quartz lights, but completely neglected the basic accessories like brackets, spears and clips.

So, with the help of a collaborator, Lino Manfrotto made his first products, including a light and sturdy lamp, which turned out to be quite tall. For a few years he only produced a few pieces to meet the needs of his photographer friends. He subsequently decided to present them internationally, getting his first significant order from a Swiss distributor.

The garage has become a production workshop. It was there that the first Manfrotto booms, telescopic rods and other supports were produced. He soon realized that production capacity was insufficient to fulfill all customer orders.

1970s In 1972 Lino Manfrotto met Gilberto Battocchio, a technician from a mechanical company in Bassano. The commercial and product soul has found its technical counterpart. It was a very important moment. The arrival of Battocchio transforms the Lino product into three-dimensional solutions. The two have formed a great team and, in a few years, have created a world leader company.

In 1974 the first Manfrotto tripod was launched. Innovative, lightweight and versatile, Manfrotto tripods and mounts have achieved success in many markets. The Group grows and, in 1986, Manfrotto already had 6 production units in Bassano, and then expanded in Feltre, establishing another 5 factories in two years.

In 1987/88 the Avenger brand was created and production started, responding to the needs of the photography and cinema market. The quality of the product has become the hallmark of this line, able to withstand extreme use, adverse weather conditions with high load capacity.

Innovative and quality products with a world-famous brand and an extensive distribution network covering 140 countries with high-level personnel, have attracted the interest of international investors. In 1989 the entire stake in Lino Manfrotto was sold to British Vitec Group plc, a multinational company listed on the London Stock Exchange. At the time it operated in the broadcasting sector with American, German, British and French branches.

The 90s

1992 saw the purchase of the French company Gitzo, leader in the sector of tripods and heads for the most advanced amateurs and professional photography.

In 1993 the American company Bogen, specialized in the distribution of photographic material in the USA, was acquired.

2000-2010

In 2004, the distribution company Bogen Imaging GmbH was launched in Germany.

In 2005, Kata, a leading Israeli company in the field of camera bags, was acquired. In the same year, the group also received a license to distribute National Geographic photographic contributions.

In 2006, two new groups were added to Bogen Imaging's distribution network, one in Japan and the other in the UK.

In 2010 Bogen Imaging changed its name to become Manfrotto Distribution in all its territories which at the time were: Germany, France, Italy, United Kingdom, Japan and USA. In the same year, two new Manfrotto distribution companies were created, based in Shanghai and Hong Kong.
