Croatia's Captivating Regions
From the red-roofed old town of Dubrovnik, to the incredible ancient ruins of Split, to the relaxed summertime festivals of Pula. Croatia is a nation of incredible sights and experiences, here are just a few of our favourite regions.
Dubrovnik
Centring around a truly spectacular UNESCO World Heritage Old Town, Dubrovnik has seen a rise in popularity in recent years as the setting for Game of Thrones' dramatic Kings Landing. Fans of the show can wander through a number of recognisable settings of the show. But, step away from that, and Dubrovnik has a wealth of beautiful sights to discover.
By day, the extensive city walls offer a fantastic walking view of the city and its surrounds, whilst even a simple wander of the meandering streets throws up an abundance of gems at every turn. Take a cable car to the top of the rocky cliffs to witness a fantastic sunset over the terracotta-roofed city and treat yourself to a romantic meal at the cliff-top restaurant to enjoy the view.
Head down to the docks for boats ready and waiting to explore the many islands dotted along the coastline, including the Island of Lokrum. Visible from the city walls, this protected island is home to hundreds of rabbits and peacocks. Not to mention a charming backstory, beautiful walks and a few hidden treasures.
Split
Overflowing with an incredible array of ancient ruins and some of the world's most spectacular Roman monuments. Split, Croatia's second largest city, is abuzz with an unshakeable energy amid an atmospheric landscape. Head to the Diocletian's Palace for one of the most impressive Roman structures still standing today. A sprawling mass of walkways packed with bars, shops and restaurants, it is the living heart of Split.
Nature-lovers should head to the nearby Majan Forest Park for jaw-dropping views over the city paired with sweet-smelling pine forests, ancient cave dwellings and much more.
Pula
For summertime wanderings and festivals aplenty, Pula is the place to be in Croatia. Maintaining its small-town appeal, the town centres around a spectacular Roman amphitheatre that doubles as a historic concert venue.
Close to the dreamy, secluded beaches of the Verudela Peninsula, Pula has a striking creativity that makes its mark in everything. From the more unusual dock-side light displays of one of the world's oldest working ports, to the wealth of indulgent eateries. Explore the captivating region of Istria from this beautiful historic centre. With its ample pine-forests and Venetian towns, it is an uncrowded treasure just waiting to be discovered.
