COVID-19 PCR Testing for Overseas Travellers
New guidelines for covid-19 testing effective from 19th July 2021.
If you are travelling back from Amber List country:
Have had both doses of your Covid-19 vaccine? You will only need to have a COVID-19 PCR test on or before your day 2 of arriving in the UK.
All others returning from Amber List countries- MUST have day 2 and day 8 tests and quarantine for 10 days.
Who could benefit from a COVID-19 RT-PCR test
All travellers or anyone requiring a certified Covid-19 RT-PCR certificate or a Fit-to-Fly certificate.
All returning travellers from Amber List countries who have had their vaccination in the UK, will only require day 2 PCR testing.
All returning travellers who require Test-to-Release Covid-19 Test on Day 5 of return to shorten their quarantine period.
All returning travellers from Amber List countries requiring mandatory day-2 and day-8 Covid-19 tests before being relieved from self-isolation.
All returning travellers from Green List countries requiring mandatory day-2 test only.
Covid-19 travel package includes:
One or Two Covid-19 swab kits, depending on where you are travelling from.
Pre-paid, Royal Mail 24 Track, return postage for your swab kits.
Full, easy to follow instructions on how to self-swab, register your kits, re-package, and send it to our laboratory using Royal Mail Priority Post Box (https://www.royalmail.com/priority-postboxes).
Your test result will be emailed to you as a pdf file.
Note: subject to Royal Mail COVID-19 Priority Box collection and delivery service, the result usually takes 24-48 hours to be available, but in some cases, it may take up to 72 hours or more.
What do I need to do before travelling back to the UK?
A1) Everyone over the age of 5 years old including citizens of the UK, MUST take a PCR coronavirus (COVID-19) test and get a negative result during the 3 days before travelling. You must carry proof of your negative test result throughout your travel.
A2) Children under 5 do not need to take the day-2 or day-8 COVID-19 PCR tests.
A3) You MUST book and pay for a travel test package, which will include COVID-19 PCR tests to be taken on or before day-2, and on or after day-8 of your quarantine (self-isolation). If travelling from Amber List Countries Or day-2 alone if travelling from Green List Countries.
A4) You MUST complete a Passenger Locator Form with details of where you will self-isolate when you arrive and the travel test package booking reference number.
What information should I provide for TTR testing scheme?
The UK Government requires following information from all passengers using TTR scheme:
Arrival date in the United Kingdom
Airline name, Flight number, Coach number, or vessel name (as appropriate)
The date on which last departed from or transited through a region or country on the red list.
Country or territory travelling from when arrived in the United Kingdom, and any country or territory transited through as part of that journey.
