Help, how do I connect my lamp to a switch?
A lamp is indispensable when renewing your interior or renovating a house. You often have to install electricity yourself or replace existing switchgear. It is therefore useful to know how to connect a lamp to a switch. Below you can read what a switch is, which one is suitable for your space and how you can best connect it to a lamp. Do not forget to switch off the power in the meter cupboard when connecting!
The suitable switch to connect a lamp
Connecting a lamp to the switch is not that difficult. A switch does nothing more than connect or disconnect current. The most commonly used switch for indoors is a built-in switch, which is located in the wall and runs parallel with it. This way you avoid inequalities. The built-in switch is covered with a cap, the control knob. There are many different types of switches such as:
- The changeover switch; the most common from the list. With this, you can switch one lamp or one lamp group on or off.
- The cross switch; is ideal for a room with multiple entrances, so you can turn the light on and off from any entrance.
- The series switch; is perfect when you want to operate multiple lamps from one power point.

When the flush-mounting box is in the wall, you always check whether it is flush with the wall. If not, make sure to add an extension ring. Otherwise, you will not be able to install the switch properly.
Strip the wires from the junction box until about 0.5 to 1 cm of copper wire is visible. The brown wire (phase wire) is connected to the terminal with an L or P on it. You connect the black wire opposite. We recommend that you read the manual carefully for two-way switching and cross switching, as it is a bit more complicated.
After connecting the wires, attach the switch to the flush-mounted box by loosely tightening the screws. Slide the flush mount switch back and forth so that it is level and then fully tighten the screws. Click the cover on the switch and test it!
Why choose stair lighting?
If you often use the stairs at night or in the evening, you can make climbing stairs a lot safer with the right lighting. In addition, the right staircase lighting also gives a super atmospheric effect. But how do you choose a lamp for your stairs? We give you a few tips!
Lighting next to the stairs
A super subtle way of stair lighting is to place recessed spotlights next to your stairs. You mount these spots in the wall and illuminate a few steps of your stairs. If you opt for a tiltable recessed spot, you ensure that the light does not shine unpleasantly in your eyes. Super safe? Check! Super atmospheric? Double-check!
Wall lamps next to your stairs
Prefer no recessed spotlights as stair lighting? Then a wall lamp is a great alternative! Choose one or two wall lamps next to the wall of your staircase to illuminate it beautifully. Then make sure you have a wall lamp that does not protrude too much in-depth to prevent you from bumping into the lamp. For example, the Otan wall lamp is a timeless lamp that immediately illuminates your walls very stylishly thanks to the up and down lighting.
A luminous banister
A LED strip is perfect to use as stair lighting if you mount it at the bottom of the banister. This way you do not immediately have the lighting in your stairwell, but you make use of a beautiful and quiet light distribution over your entire staircase. The nice thing about our LED strip Teania is that it can easily be operated with a remote control in different light colors. This way you create the right atmosphere in your hall for every moment!
