The Taste of Aberlour Whisky

The Aberlour distillery is located at the heart of Speyside, the country's premier whisky-producing region, and produces a whisky with subtle depth and elegance. The pure spring water of Ben Rinnes that flows into the river Lour, making its way through the Lour valley to the Aberlour distillery is the heart of Aberlour's single malt scotch whisky. Once the crystal-clear spring water is drawn from the river Lour for producing the whisky, the spirit is aged in the Aberlour warehouse where it inhales the moist Speyside air.

The History of Aberlour and the Aberlour Distillery

The Aberlour distillery was founded in 1879 by James Fleming where he built the site on St Drostans Well, securing a priceless source of pure spring water for the whisky production. However, in 1898 a devastating fire destroyed many of the distillery's buildings, as well as the majority of it's stock. Nevertheless, under the supervision of Scotland's leading designer of whisky distilleries, Charles Doig of Elgin, the Aberlour Distillery was mostly rebuilt. Now owned by Chivas Brothers, a subsidiary of Pernod Ricard. As the distillery stands today, inevitably over the past 100 years with the introduction of new technology the landscape of the distillery has predictably been changed, however many of the original features still remain and the traditional working character of the distillery is still in place.
