Spring has officially sprung and the recent warmer weather has us all wanting to venture outside. And—believe it or not—the UK’s outdoor offering is pretty spectacular.
Whether you’re getting lost in the Scottish highlands or clambering around the Cornish coastline, the UK has a vast landscape, serving up some awesome walking routes.
Here are our top 5 to add to your explore list this year…
Valley of Rocks, Devon
This dramatic coastline is a dry valley that runs parallel to the coast in north Devon and is a popular tourist walking route. The name itself sounds mysterious and other-worldly; it’s safe to say that this part of England is truly beautiful. It’s 3.6 miles of ragged rocks, woodland walks, and tree-clad headlands—as well as a secluded bay. There’s more to explore, but you’ll just have to embark on this 2 hour walk yourself to relish in this stunning part of the South West Coast Path.
Thames Path, Marlow to Cookham
The Thames Path walking route is one of the finest in England. The Marlow to Cookham walk in Berkshire inspired The Wind in the Willows and is an excellent ramble to enjoy during warmer months. This scenic 5.5 mile walk takes you through open meadows, wetland sites, and along the river from Marlow to the picturesque village of Cookham. You’ll be greeted with plenty of opportunities to eat and drink on the way so this is definitely one to add into the diary with friends.
Dinas Oleu Walk, Barmouth
If you’re looking for a walk that’s steeped in history, then this is it. Starting from Barmouth town center, you’ll stroll through winding streets of the Old Town up to the top of the gorse-covered hill, Dinas Oleu. Be sure to take your camera; there are outstanding views over Mawddach Estuary and Cardigan Bay to admire during this 2 hour walk.
Tobermory Bay to Aros Park, Isle of Mull
Passing lochs, waterfalls, and colorful houses, this 2 hour scenic walk explores the beautiful Scottish coastline heading east from Tobermory heading to Aros Park and Loch a’Ghurrabain. Pack a picnic to enjoy en route!
Norfolk Coast Path: Cromer to Sheringham
This spectacular circular walking route will allow you to discover the beauty of the Norfolk coast and take in the North’s beach offering. You’ll kick off the walk at Cromer Pier and will go on to enjoy the relatively flat landscape of this British coastline. That is—until you head inland. This part of the walk takes you through woodland and up to Beacon Hill, which is run by the National Trust and sits at 338 ft high.

Travel on a Budget: 5 Dream Destinations

This holiday destination might not have guaranteed sunshine, but if you love natural scenic landscapes, the views you’ll witness on hikes here are breathtaking. Hire a campervan or take a tent in your car to keep the costs down.
India
Now this is a country so vibrant it’s hard not to get caught up in its ferocious and chaotic charm. Flight prices are pretty good since travel is being encouraged again, but the most reasonable costs of all are once you arrive. You can enjoy some of the most tantalizing food experiences you’ll ever have when traveling India. Our top tip is to keep it local; use local guides and try the street food. Nepal
To continue the dream of adventure on a shoestring, head to Nepal for a series of photographic experiences. Here, accommodation is still affordable—just avoid hotels that have been taken over by large chains. Instead, opt for comfortable ‘homestays’ run by welcoming locals. Once you’ve explored the rural part of Nepal, make your way to its capital, Kathmandu. Here, you’ll witness bustling city scenes where tasting their renowned street food is a must—plus, it will cost you as little as £5 a day to eat out!
Honduras
One of the cheapest countries in Central America, Honduras is known for its Mayan Ruins, biodiverse jungles and white sandy beaches. It’s a great country to travel to—not only because of its beauty, but also because of its affordability. A nice double room will cost around £30 a night and street food is a must-try; it’s good AND it’s cheap. It’s a boxing-ticking travel destination for sure!
