After years of juggling multiple disconnected technologies and systems, the marketing team at Vacanceselect needed to make a major shift towards centralized customer communications in order to reach their goal of providing 'moments that matter' to consumers. In preparing for the shift, the following challenges emerged:1. Vacanceselect needed to communicate new perks, such as new amenities, event updates, or property improvements (i.e. swimming pools, gyms, concert events, childcare services offerings, or menus) to interested customers.2. Scheijen mentions four spearheads that Vacanceselect will focus on in the near future. Firstly, it is creating awareness and tapping into new target groups. 'We need to take away the prejudices about camping. It is not uncomfortable and the image of walking around the campsite with your toilet roll, washing the dishes in a basin and showering with a coin is outdated. We rent accommodations that vary from basic to luxury, with a dishwasher and a jacuzzi. They are apartments in the open air that suit people who have a fear of camping but book an apartment or a cottage for their vacation. Camping has not become a budget but a lifestyle choice and we will spread that message even better. '
Bar is high for e-commerce

Second, Scheijen wants to take e-commerce activities to a higher level. 'We are a pure player, so we have to rely on our online sales. The bar is set high because for the consumer there is no difference between buying something from Bol.com or booking a holiday with us. We can make some improvements there, such as a mining environment and a better site where it becomes even easier to find the perfect holiday. The third spearhead follows from this: Vacanceselect wants to acquire more e-commerce knowledge. 'We work a lot with agencies, but if you want to be a leading e-commerce player, you have to be able to carry out the most important activities yourself. Own employees are closer to the business, know more quickly what is going on and are more committed to the business. This is more difficult for agencies, because they have several clients. I find the relationship valuable, but mainly to determine strategies and keep us sharp, not to outsource operational tasks. '
